A room in someone's home that you rent during the week and leave at weekends, popular with students and people working away from home. Homeowners can earn up to €14,000 a year tax-free (€16,000 from 1 January 2027) from renting a room in their own home under Revenue's Rent-a-Room relief.
Is it free to advertise a room in Kildare?
Yes. Posting an ad on StayLister is free: there are no ad fees, so nothing is lost if plans change. Every ad is checked before it goes live, and if we send one back we say why and how to fix it.
How do I avoid rental scams?
Never pay a deposit before you've seen the place and met the person, be wary of prices far below the area's usual rent, and don't send money by transfer services to people you haven't met. StayLister checks every ad and shows when a price is unusually low. Read our guide to avoiding rental scams for more.
