How StayLister works, and how we keep you safe

StayLister is a free Irish website for rooms to rent, house shares, Monday–Friday digs and short-term lets. Here is what it does, and exactly what we check.

How we keep you safe

  • Every ad is checked: Before an ad goes live, our system screens it for scam warning signs, copied photos and rent far below the area. A person checks every new advertiser's first ad, unless they have passed our ID check.
  • Three advertiser checks, explained: Phone: confirmed with a code sent by text message, one number per account. Email: confirmed with a link. ID: a passport, driving licence, EU ID card or Irish Residence Permit and a live selfie, checked by our partner Didit.
  • Your number stays private: Phone numbers aren't shown on ads. You message on StayLister, and only signed-in members can ask for an advertiser's number.
  • Scam check on messages: If a message asks for money before a viewing, our team is told straight away. An account that does it to several people in a day is paused until a person looks at it.
  • Report, and ask for a review: Anyone can report an ad, and suspected scams go to the top of our queue. If we refuse your ad or pause your account, you can ask a person to look again.
  • Photos without hidden data: Location and camera details are removed from photos and videos when they're uploaded.
  • Honest about what a tick means: We don't inspect properties or vouch for advertisers. Always view in person before paying anything.

For people looking for a room

  • Search in your own words: Type what you want, like "double room near DCU under €900", and we set the filters for you.
  • Search on a map: Search on a map, or draw the area you want and see only the rooms inside it.
  • Commute times and transport: See bus, Luas, DART and train stops on the map, and check how long the trip is to your college or work.
  • Filters that matter in Ireland: Price, room type, dates, how long you can stay, couples welcome, bills included, HAP accepted, BER rating and more.
  • New rooms by email: Save a search and we email you new matches.
  • Rent compared with the area: Each ad shows how its rent compares with similar places nearby, and our rent guide shows typical rents by area.
  • Save, compare and book a viewing: Save ads into folders, compare them side by side, message advertisers and book a viewing.

For people with a room to rent

  • Free, with no commission: Searching, messaging and posting ads cost nothing. No fees and no commission.
  • Post in a few minutes: Start without an account, paste an ad you wrote somewhere else, or let "Write it for me" draft the description. Your Eircode fills in the address.
  • Show only the area: You can hide your exact address: the map then shows only the approximate area until you share it.
  • The details renters ask about: BER rating, RTB number, HAP, who lives in the house and the house rules, with guidance on the Equal Status Acts.
  • See how your ad is doing: Views per day, saves and enquiries for each ad. Ads stay live for 30 days, and you can keep yours live with one click.

Common questions

Is StayLister free?

Yes. Searching, messaging and posting ads are free, with no fees and no commission.

What do the three ticks on an ad mean?

They show what we confirmed about the advertiser: their mobile number (with a code sent by text message), their email address (with a link) and their ID (a document and a live selfie, checked by our partner Didit). A grey icon means not done yet.

Does a green tick mean the advertiser is safe?

No. It means we confirmed those details. We don't inspect properties or prove who owns them, so always view in person and never pay before a viewing.

How do you check ads?

Every ad is screened before it goes live for scam warning signs, rent far below the area, copied photos and contact details hidden in the text. A person checks every new advertiser's first ad (unless they have passed our ID check), and anything that needs a closer look.

Which languages can I use?

English, Portuguese, Spanish, Polish, Italian, French, Chinese and Ukrainian. Ads show in the language the advertiser wrote them in.
