Renting a room as a couple in Ireland

Looking for a double room for two? How to find shares that welcome couples, what to ask about the price and bills, and how to make your first message stand out.

Finding shares that welcome couples

Not every share takes couples: two people use more hot water, heating and kitchen time. Look for ads that say couples are welcome. On StayLister, use the "Couples welcome" filter under More filters.

You'll need a double room. Ask how big it is and how much storage there is for two.

The price and bills

Many shares charge a little more for a couple, or split bills by person rather than by room. Ask how the rent and bills work for two before you view.

If you both pay, agree with the landlord or homeowner whose name the agreement is in. In a tenancy, ask for both names on it.

Your first message

Say who you both are, what you do, your hours, and when you'd like to move in. Housemates want to know how a couple will fit into the house, so mention that you're considerate about shared spaces.

Fill in "About me as a renter" in your StayLister profile: it's shared with the advertiser when you first message them.
