Finding a room
- How do I search for a room? Choose a county and area, your budget, the room type and dates, or type what you want in your own words. You can also search on a map and draw the area you want.
- Can I get new rooms by email? Yes. Save a search and we email you new rooms that match it. You can change or stop the emails in Settings.
- What do long-term, short-term and Mon–Fri digs mean? Long-term: rent by the month, with no fixed end date. Short-term: a few weeks to a few months (stays of 22 nights or more), with set dates. Mon–Fri digs: a room from Monday to Friday, home at weekends.
Posting an ad
- Is it free to post an ad? Yes. Posting ads, searching and messaging are free, with no fees and no commission.
- How long does my ad stay live? 30 days. We remind you before it ends, and you can keep it live for another 30 days for free with one click, or from My Listings.
- Why isn't my ad live yet? Every ad is checked before it goes live. An advertiser's first ad is checked by a person on our team, usually within a day, unless they have passed our ID check. If something needs changing, we tell you what and how to fix it.
- My ad was refused. What can I do? Fix what we asked for and send it again from My Listings. If you think we got it wrong, ask for a review and a person will look at it again.
- How do I mark a room as let? In My Listings, choose Mark as let. The ad stops showing to renters and stays in your account, so you can reactivate it later.
Safety and checks
- What do the three ticks on an ad mean? They show what we confirmed about the advertiser: their mobile number, their email address and their ID. A grey icon means not done yet. They don't prove the person owns the place, so always view in person before paying anything.
- How do I report an ad? Open the ad and choose Report this ad. Reports of suspected scams go to the top of our queue.
- Someone asked me to pay before a viewing. What should I do? Don't pay. Never pay a deposit, rent or holding fee before you've viewed the place in person, and never by money-transfer apps, crypto or gift cards. Report the ad so our team can look at it.
Messages and viewings
- Is my phone number shown on my ad? No. Phone numbers aren't shown on ads. People message you on StayLister, and only signed-in members can ask for your number, if you choose to share it.
- How do I arrange a viewing? In the conversation, suggest a few viewing times and the other person picks one. We send you both a reminder before the viewing.
- What is the renter profile? A short "About me as a renter" card in Settings: move-in date, budget, how long you'd stay, work or study and a short intro. Fill it in once, and advertisers you message see it, so you don't repeat yourself.
Your account and data
- How do I get a copy of my data? Go to Settings, then Your data, and choose Download my data. You get one file with everything we keep about your account.
- How do I delete my account? Go to Settings and choose Delete account. We delete your account, ads, photos and saved items straight away. Messages you sent stay in the other person's inbox, without your name.
- Which languages can I use? English, Portuguese, Spanish, Polish, Italian, French, Chinese and Ukrainian. Use the language button at the top of the page.
Letting agencies
- I'm a letting agent. Can I post many rooms at once? Yes. When you sign up, choose "I'm a letting agency or property manager". Then paste all your ads or a spreadsheet, add the photos, and manage every room from your agency dashboard. Add your PSRA licence number to get the Verified agency badge.
